My daughter is a "big Minnie fan" so, naturally, she wanted to dress at Minnie for Halloween. I used a dress pattern with a puff sleeve, and pantaloons with lace on the hem. I purchased Minnie shoes and ears from the Disney Store.
She wore the costume in a fashion show that was a fund raiser to benefit a cancer support group.
I meet the most interesting people in the sewing classes I teach. Some students return again and again, some just stay for a session. All need to be celebrated for the work they do. Enjoy...

So Much Sewing
I have been behind on posting all of my student's projects. I hope I have them all, I'm sorry if I missed anyone. If I did, please feel free to send me a picture. I will get it on.

St. Patrick's Apron

This apron started as a dishtowel. First, embroider the design on the bottom. Make a casing for the ribbon by folding down two inches on the opposite side of the embroidery design. Holding the casing side to your waist, fold the dishtowel up in front to the length you like. This fold will also form a pocket. Sew the sides to secure the fold. Sew either one or two vertical seams to create pockets. Put ribbon through casing. You are done.

Valentine's Pennie Pockets

Last year I made these pennie pockets to use on my Valentine's table setting. I used them as a silverware holder. This year, I brought them to my friend's house for the table setting. The men planned and made us dinner. How about that.

We should be sewing
I keep checking the weather forecast and I think both sewing classes on Thursday, Jan12 will be good to go. If it is icy or snow covered in your area, stay safe and make up the class later.

Last night I made the easiest table runner ever! I had three gold place mats from the dollar store. I made 4 button holes and put ribbon through to attach the place mats. Done! I originally wanted black ribbon, but I was out so bluish-silver it was, for now.

I was so excited, I made another with two black place mats and white ribbon. I even took pictures before I pressed them.
Other variations are more buttonholes with more bows, or buttons would look good. I will be visiting the dollar store with those ideas in mind.
I also finished a lap quilt that needed binding. The quilt has been folded for at least 2 years, but now it is on my couch. Productive night!

Sewing during holiday break

I did not sew as much as I would have liked. Of course, that is my mantra everyday. If I could sew everyday, on a project I am totally excited about, my life would be complete. But that will not happen yet. (Once I finish my dissertation, sewing more is on the list of post-dissertation goals.)
I did get some things done:
I have new curtains in our bedroom and they look great. My friend, Brenda, went crazy when she saw them...and I was not even showing off.
I also had some Christmas fabric lying around, so I made a table runner and 6 place mats. Next year, they will be part of the decor. As you can see from the picture, they are reversible.
I have a few more things planned. I will keep you posted.

A Returning Student
Last night, Vivian walked through the door and returned to sewing class! She has not been in sewing class for quite a while, but life is busy when you are 16. Vivian was the first of my students to make her 8th grade dance dress...and it was lovely. This time, we are making her prom dress. I am so excited!
